Harlow Madden’s Snazzy Sneakers October 15, 2010

Harlow Madden sure looks pretty in pink!

While out for family pizza night with dad Joel Madden, mom Nicole Richie and little brother Sparrow, the adorable 2-year-old stepped out in an adorable girlie-meets-punk ensemble (tiered print dress, graffiti-style sneakers and flower headband). But it was her colorful footwear that really caught our eye.

Turns out the curly-haired cutie was sporting Twinkle Toes Dualing Hearts ($37) shoes from SKECHERS KIDS. Bright and glittery, they feature a hip graphic design and light up! (People.com)

These snazzy sneakers would look adorable paired with our Sama Rockstar Dresses! The colors in the shoe go perfectly with the our raspberry rose print. Keep it rockin’ Harlow! Check out SamaBaby.com for more color options!

H&M – Organic Cotton News for Moms! October 1, 2010

Hello Ladies! So, you may have heard European retailer H&M has made a push into the organic cotton world. Of course, it’s always great to hear organic cotton being used instead of that icky chemical filled stuff! Here are some details:

H&M has confirmed that by 2020, it will source only ‘sustainable’ cotton, most of it as part of the company’s involvement in the Better Cotton Initiative, writes Tone Skårdal Tobiasson in Copenhagen.

Addressing more than 150 delegates at the recent NICE (Nordic Initiative Clean & Ethical) Fashion’s fall conference in Copenhagen, Catarina Midby, Head of Fashion Communications, H&M, updated delegates on the company’s development of its ‘restricted chemicals list’ and its five-year organic cotton-plan which she confirmed was ahead of schedule; with an original pledge to source 15,000 tons of organic cotton by 2013, the company hit the 8,500 tons mark by the end of  2009.

Organic cotton production does not simply mean replacing synthetic fertilizers and pesticides with organic ones. Organic cultivation methods are based more on knowledge of agronomic processes than input-based conventional production is. This process takes time because farms need to complete a two-year conversion period to change their production system from conventional to organic. An essential element of organic production is the careful selection of varieties adapted to local conditions in terms of climate, soil and robustness to pests and diseases.

Welcome to the fabulous world of organic cotton H&M! 🙂

Thank You from Nancy O’Dell and Ashby! August 30, 2010

Named one of “Television Week’s” 10 Most Bankable Stars in Syndication, Nancy O’Dell has proven to be a force in all areas of her career as a journalist, author, producer and entrepreneur. One of the country’s most respected and leading entertainment journalists, O’Dell served as the co- anchor of “Access Hollywood” for thirteen years. She has also contributed reports to NBC News’ “Today” show and “Dateline.” With 20 years of live television experience, Nancy is a go-to host for live network specials having recently hosted ABC’s 2010 Fall Preview special, VH1’s 2010 Critic’s Choice Awards Live Red Carpet Special, and the 2010 Superbowl Fan Jam Concert Special .

When Nancy was pregnant with her baby girl, Ashby, she found herself saying often, “Why didn’t ya’ll friggin tell me that was gonna happen!” Nancy took notes during her pregnancy (the reporter in her never rests), so she would have memories of all the crazy, unexpected, scary, sometimes embarrassing things that happen during pregnancy. Now, she’s passing them on to expecting mothers and fathers so they won’t have to be as surprised as she was!

We recently received a thank you note from Ashby and Nancy:

Thank you so very much for the amazing basket you sent for my 3rd birthday. Everything in it is fantastic and I am truly enjoying! Mama Nancy says thank you as well!!
All my best!

Ashby

Make Sure Your Memorial Day is red, white, blue, and green! May 27, 2010

I came across this post on AutonomieProject.com,  a new Fair Trade fashion company offering stylish sweatshop-free & eco-friendly footwear, clothing and accessories. They have some great ideas on how to keep your Memorial traditions eco-friendly this year 🙂

At the Sama office we celebrate our Memorial Day in a green friendly way!

Let’s start a new American tradition of making a smaller imprint on the Earth, while still indulging in our fun! To help this new tradition along, we have put together some helpful tips on how to make sure your Memorial Day is red, white, blue, and green! ( Tips from AutonomieProject.com),

1) Green that Grill: BBQ is a true Memorial Day and summer tradition and it is easy to green your grill.  Replacing your chemical laden charcoal to more earth friendly means such as wood briquettes or natural organic charcoal. Either of these choices will leave your food without the burning of coal, petroleum products, sawdust, or limestone, which are all toxic.

2) Hold the Meat: Although traditional American BBQs include tons and tons of meat! To truly green your BBQ, we suggest you hold the meat. The meat industry consumes more than a third of the fossil fuels in the US and contributes 18% of greenhouse gases, which is even more than the transportation industry! Environmentalists, along with the Sama Team :), have long been promoting a veggie based diet as a way to green your life, so why not make the switch for your BBQ this year! There are hundreds of great veggie based “meat” style products on the market such as Veggie Burgers, Soy Dogs, Soy Sausage, Veggie Ribs etc.

3) Organic & Fair Trade Drinks: Even if we try, we can not deny that many American holidays revolve around drinking! And Memorial Day is no stranger to this rule. Luckily more and more organic beer, wine, and spirits are on the market these days. Try your best to support your local micro breweries when selecting beer.

4) Stay Local: We know, we know, a “staycation” is nowhere near as exciting as traveling far away to go camping. However, traveling by car for long distances or by plane is not so eco-friendly. Now we aren’t saying you should camp out in your own backyard literally (although that can be an adventure), we just mean look for destinations close to home. Stay within 20-50 miles of your own home! You may find that there are wonderous campgrounds, beautiful hiking trails, or a pretty lake nearby that you never noticed. You can even do a search on Reserve America to find campgrounds near you or look into the National and State Park systems for local ideas.

Of course, one tip to add to the bunch,  is to celebrate with your children in organic style, by dressing them on Sama Baby Organics. Our adorable fashion forward garments are festive and comfortable, are 100% organic.

Thanks for these great tips AutonomieProject.com!!
