Sama Fan: Zac Hanson Welcomes Daughter Junia Rosa Ruth December 17, 2010

Back in May we received a thank you from the Hanson family for the gift we sent to John Ira Shepherd Hanson (“Shepherd”), for his 2nd birthday. Now the Hanson’s  are welcoming their 2nd child into the world, daughter Junia Rosa Ruth. Looks like we need to get a new gift basket together… Congratulations from the Sama Baby Team!!

Zac Hanson got an early holiday present on Wednesday – and it was exactly what he was hoping for.

The Hanson drummer and his wife Kate welcomed their second child, daughter Junia Rosa Ruth, who arrived at 8 lbs., 7 oz.

“We couldn’t imagine a better Christmas gift than this sweet little girl,” Hanson, 25, tells PEOPLE.

“In just the short time she’s been here, she’s enriched our family and our lives beyond measure,” he adds. “We’re looking forward to celebrating the season with our family and introducing her to everyone.”

Baby Junia joins brother Shepherd, 2½, and a half-dozen cousins ranging from age 2 to 8: Zac’s brother and bandmate Taylor has four kids while Isaac has two.

Encouraging trade, not aid, co-founders Erin Brennan Allan and Mary Wambui source their organic cotton from Uganda, where it is grown and spun then brought to Nairobi, where it is twisted, dyed, and Wambui trains and manages a group of up to 200 knitters.

“I provide a clean and comfortable working environment for my knitters–in most cases bringing the work to them,” said Allan, when asked in e-mail correspondence about the enforcement of fair trade standards. She continued, “They can work as much or as little as they like or are able to; are paid by the piece giving them flexibility to put their families first; and their wages are above the government minimum wages and reflect the cost of living in Nairobi for skilled workers.”

Family Groove: MOM ON THE STREET, Shivani Gupta! September 1, 2010

MOM ON THE STREET

Our very own Shivani Gupta, Sama CEO, was featured on The Family Groove’s Mom On The Street series! Here is what she and a few other moms had to say!

Welcome to “Mom on the Street” (ya know, like “Man on the Street”) by Family Groove. Each month, we’ll be asking moms just like you for a slice of their sage advice, insider tips or tried-and-true wisdom in the hopes that their unique brand of mothering inspires, assuages, calms, strengthens and even amuses you.

This month’s question:

What are you looking forward to this fall?

Blakeley Smart and Family Blakeley Smart is the founder of Bronzed Envy (www.bronzedenvy.com), a mobile airbrush tanning franchise. Here’s what this Round Rock, Texas, mother of two has to say:

“Fall is such a great time of the year for my family. School starts again, [there are] new teachers, kids have a schedule, and Mom gets some much-needed work done. My youngest will be starting kindergarten this year, so I’m really looking forward to the excitement that comes with that, but it’s topped with a bit of sadness knowing my last little chickadee is leaving the nest. So for me, this fall brings about a new chapter of my life. After a hot, chaotic yet fun summer, come fall, it’s an exciting time for me as well to set new goals with my business and take it to an all-new level!”

Laurie Penix and family Laurie Penix is the creator and co-founder of Zomm (www.zomm.com), a keychain-sized wireless leash with call notification and personal safety features for Bluetooth-enabled phones.

Here is what this Tulsa, Okla., mother of three has to say:

“Most people are surprised to hear that I love the outdoors. The warmer months are great, for obvious reasons, but I also love watching the seasons change to the fall. I spend a lot of time at the lake enjoying the sun, fishing and relaxing. The best part has to be the fall sunsets; they are so beautiful.”

Shivani Gupta Shivani Gupta is the co-owner of Sama Baby (www.samababy.com), makers of luxury organic cotton clothing for babies and toddlers. Here’s what this Houston, Texas, mom-to-be has to say:

“I am looking forward to creating a wonderful eco-nursery for the newest addition to my family. For us, we have learned that airing out products when you get them is very important—in order to make sure all the chemicals are released and not trapped in the nursery, which could be harmful for your baby. For us, we really believe that going green is an easy choice, and there are so many products out there. We have looked at many other products, from organic mattresses to wonderful wooden toys, and are able to find them at great prices, and in wonderful designs. We are even looking into no-VOC paint as well as recycled wood for the crib—as we think about the environment in every aspect. Going green is so easy in today’s age—and there are so many great ideas and sites on how to be a better environmentalist while thinking about your child! At Sama Baby, we have been very excited in creating organic cotton clothing for little ones—and this fall we are featuring our latest product: our organic cotton denim line, which is super stylish, comfortable and affordable. For us, fall is a great season to stay warm, happy and enjoy the beautiful colored leaves. We love the new season and what it brings for everyone.”

Thank You from Nancy O’Dell and Ashby! August 30, 2010

Named one of “Television Week’s” 10 Most Bankable Stars in Syndication, Nancy O’Dell has proven to be a force in all areas of her career as a journalist, author, producer and entrepreneur. One of the country’s most respected and leading entertainment journalists, O’Dell served as the co- anchor of “Access Hollywood” for thirteen years. She has also contributed reports to NBC News’ “Today” show and “Dateline.” With 20 years of live television experience, Nancy is a go-to host for live network specials having recently hosted ABC’s 2010 Fall Preview special, VH1’s 2010 Critic’s Choice Awards Live Red Carpet Special, and the 2010 Superbowl Fan Jam Concert Special .

When Nancy was pregnant with her baby girl, Ashby, she found herself saying often, “Why didn’t ya’ll friggin tell me that was gonna happen!” Nancy took notes during her pregnancy (the reporter in her never rests), so she would have memories of all the crazy, unexpected, scary, sometimes embarrassing things that happen during pregnancy. Now, she’s passing them on to expecting mothers and fathers so they won’t have to be as surprised as she was!

We recently received a thank you note from Ashby and Nancy:

Thank you so very much for the amazing basket you sent for my 3rd birthday. Everything in it is fantastic and I am truly enjoying! Mama Nancy says thank you as well!!
All my best!

Ashby
