Two young entrepreneurial sisters making a difference with a fashion forward organic cotton baby clothing!

Country Music Star Brad Paisley and family are Sama Fans! March 31, 2010

With more than 10 million albums sold, 10 No. 1 hits, a solid marriage to actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Brad Paisley has established himself as country music’s most formidable neotraditionalists.

While other kids his age were listening to the radio, Paisley was already on it. Spending his teen years performing on the weekly radio show, “Jamboree USA”, Paisley honed his skills as a singer, songwriter and guitar slinger. Within a week of graduating from Nashville’s Belmont University, Paisley had a songwriting contract. Four years later, he released his first album, Who Needs Pictures, on which he wrote or cowrite all the songs and played guitar on every track. No wonder the West Virginia native emerged as the breakout country act in the summer of 1999 – and hasn’t looked back.

Brad and Kimberly have welcomed two sons into their lives. Through Jewels and Pinstripes we recently sent their oldest son Huck some Sama clothing for his birthday, and received this thank you:

What a wonderful gift for Huck’s birthday! Full of great treasures! We love the monkey hat by Zooni- looks so cute on Jasper too! I am so excited about the Little Pim DVDs. I’ve really been wanting to expose Huck to Spanish and we don’t speak it ourselves. Maybe we can learn together! And Huck has just outgrown ALL of his shoes, so Stride Rites are perfect. Oh, and we love the Mabels labels and the cute Zoo backpack because Huck just started school!! Thanks again for thinking of him. Right now I’m giving him the Vemma drink for the first time. He likes it!!

Let me know how the auction goes!
Kim, Brad & Huck of course

Sama Baby spotlights the Sustainable Cotton Project:

Located in California’s Central Valley, the world’s most productive agricultural region, the Sustainable Cotton Project (SCP) focuses on the production and use of cotton, one of the most widely grown and chemical-intensive crops in the world.

Since 1996, SCP has brought farmers, manufacturers, and consumers together. SCP’s guiding philosophy of “cooperation for a change” fosters information-sharing among these groups to develop a Cleaner Cotton™ industry.

In 2003, SCP joined the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) to strengthen its operations and reach other farm and consumer audiences. CAFF and SCP provide growers with information about biological farming techniques and educate the public about the importance of reducing chemical use in fiber and food production and supporting local farmers.

Because of cotton’s versatility, it is used for many food and fiber products, making it one of the most widely traded commodities on earth. Yet the simple act of growing and harvesting one pound of cotton fiber to make a T-shirt takes a toll on the earth’s air, water, and soil, and has significant impacts on the health of people in cotton growing areas.

Cotton cultivation uses approximately 11% of the world’s pesticides, though it is grown on just 2.4% of the world’s arable land12. Some of these chemicals are classified as toxic or carcinogenic by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In developing countries, where regulations are less stringent, the negative impacts are more severe.

SCP’s programs encourage the production and demand for California grown Cleaner Cotton™.

PRODUCTION: The BASIC program focuses directly on farm issues. SCP helps farmers develop a working knowledge of practices that reduce chemical use that can be successfully and economically applied to cotton.

DEMAND: The Cleaner Cotton™ Campaign helps manufacturers develop strategies to incorporate Cleaner Cotton™ and organic cotton fibers into existing products. Manufacturer demand is essential to increasing market opportunities for farmer’s growing Cleaner Cotton™ and organic cotton.

Aurthor Shara Grylls and son Huckleberry are Sama Fans! March 29, 2010

Shara Grylls is an author and the wife of British television personality Bear Grylls. Bear Grylls is a mountaineer, author, motivational speaker and former member of the British Special Forces who stars in the Discovery Channel show, Man Vs. Wild. The show is known in Britain as Born Survivor, and is highly entertaining in my opinion! Man Vs. Wild is a television series on the Discovery Channel in which host Bear Grylls is dropped into remote locations around the world and forced to survive in the wilderness using only the most basic tools and his own survival skills.

Their third child, Huckleberry Edward Jocelyne Grylls, was born on January 15, 2009. Recently, SAMA sent Huckleberry some of our very soft and durable 🙂  organic cotton clothing that is sure to sustain all the adventures of a 1-year-old, and received this kind thank you:

Just a note to say thank you for the cute top you gave Huckleberry – it is so gorgeous and he wears it masses!
I just looked at your website and you have such brilliant things – well done!
Thank you so much for your generosity.
Kind regards
Shara Grylls

Grylls published Marriage Matters in 2006. She describes the book as a “treasure of good advice and witty illustrations.” Grylls assembled the book from advice she and her husband received from friends and family when they got married.

Grylls reportedly met her husband on New Year’s Eve 1997. He had allegedly been skinny dipping in the ocean off the north coast of Scotland when a wave washed away his clothes. She was walking by at the time, while he was “running around naked, trying to find my trousers.” What a hilarious way to meet your husband! Thanks for the kind words Shara!

Constance Marie and Luna Marie are Eco Savvy! March 25, 2010

Actress Constance Marie is a new mom! The former George Lopez star and her fiancé, yoga teacher Kent Katich, welcomed daughter Luna Marie Katich on Thursday, February 5th 2009 in Santa Monica, Calif.

Constance, 43, announced her pregnancy — and the sex of the baby — in September of last year. Deciding to take the parenthood plunge came later in life for Constance, who laughingly shared,

“After 10, 11 years of playing a mom, starting with Selena and then to the George Lopez show, I think I finally decided I wanted to be one in real life!”   (Source, People Magazine )

Since then, Constance has learned a lot about creating an eco-friendly environment for Luna. Sama Baby recently gifted Constance some of our eco- friendly products as part of a birthday bag for Luna’s 1st birthday, and received a thoughtful thank you card from her:

Thank you sooo much for helping us celebrate Luna Marie’s 1st Birthday!!!
The “It’s Fun to be One” Gift Bag was Awesome!!!
Constance Marie

Words from Constance herself: One of the things I discovered in over three years of trying to get pregnant was how the toxicity of certain products and the environment around us can affect our bodies. I also learned that often times the most toxic room in the house can be the nursery. This is because everything from the paint to the varnish to the flooring is new. So in order to keep my baby as healthy as possible I decided I wanted to build a non-toxic/green nursery.

Well done Constance! 🙂 That’s why we know you will enjoy our organic cotton garments! To shop for your very own Sama Baby products visit .  To read tips from Constance on an eco-friendly nursery click here!

Some of our Adorable Sama Baby Models! March 24, 2010

The Burdick Family twins were a part of one of our Sama Fashion Shows last year!! They are pictured below, looking adorable in their Sama onesies, with our very own VP, Neha Gupta.
Read their story below:
The boys were in their first “Fashion Show” this past weekend.  It was so much fun to be a part of.  Here is the story….
We met this girl, Neha Gupta, at Discovery Green many months ago.  She is a designer for this organic clothing line here in Houston.  It is called Sama Baby.  Check it out!  She emailed us a few weeks ago and asked if the boys would like to be in a fashion show featuring her clothing line.  It was at a new store here in Houston called Green Living.  It is basically a green store for home building or remodeling.  It was a grand opening/fashion show!  So much fun.  Patrick was a total trooper!  We had to walk down the runway with the boys.  I thought that we would go as a family, but we went separately.  The boys were so cute.   They waved at the crowd and smiled big.  It is hard to tell in the pictures, but their onesies have elephants on them….they symbol for Sama Baby.  Check out the website at  Lots of cute girl clothing!
If you think your child has what it takes to be a Sama model please email us a recent photo to

Jenny Lawson @thebloggess featured our Sama Rockstar Dress on her little one! March 23, 2010

That look

By Jenny (bloggess & mom of 5 year old)

I’m looking through my pictures from a few weeks ago and I keep coming back to this one:

Technically it’s not a good picture. It’s crooked and you can’t see the water and Hailey is looking off at something behind me. It’s the kind of picture that I’d usually delete or put in a folder that never gets printed but I keep coming back to it over and over because whenever I look at it I see a girl who looks so much older than her five years here, and it makes my heart hurt (in both a good and bad way) to see it.

It’s like a glimpse of the future.

I couldn’t quite put my finger on why she looks so grown up here and then I finally figured it out. It’s a look of confidence, a look of independence. It’s a look I still haven’t mastered and one that she’s just trying on. It’s the same look that I’ll probably see on the day she leaves home forever.

It’s a look I can wait for.

(Post above : as seen on the Houston Mom blog)

There were over 18 comments on how beautiful and confident this young lady (only 5 :)) looks in her  Sama Rockstar

One of our favorite comments here at the Sama office is :

I want her whole outfit but in my size.
