Designing – What Inspires You? November 4, 2009

Designing: Inspiration – What Inspires You?

What inspires you? What makes you think in the morning when you get up? What are you thinking about when you are getting ready for work?

These are all thoughts. Do you have a thought journal? Do you have a place where you right down all your ideas?

So, if you want to know how I am inspired – food, colors, thoughts, people, air, plants, ideas, philosophical concepts, spirituality, teachings, and life inspire me.

Sounds like a lot.  But these are all the little things that go into a Sama Baby collection.

Leave a comment. I’d love to know what inspires you to wake up every morning too!

Sama Baby supports Local Elementary School! November 2, 2009

We support local schools!
West U Elementary Bazaar:

I want to tell you about the beauty of talking to your neighbors, and how things can work out organically! One of my neighbors had mentioned that their son goes to West U Elementary.  I thought that was pretty interesting, and one day they needed a ride to go pick him up.  I offered, as I thought it would be nice to see the school – and helped him get his son! In the process, we ran into a set of parents that were also picking up their kids – and my neighbor was mentioning that I owned an organic baby line called Sama Baby.  The parents immediately responded and said, “I read about you on the front page of our community newspaper a few months ago – congratulations – that is so cool!”  I had no idea how much people actually remembered reading that article – as it was posted in December of 2008!  After that, my neighbor proceeded to put Sama Baby postcards at West U – at a little table in the front area.  After three days,  he went back just to see if people had picked any up, and there were only three left. How crazy is that?  If you know that your school has any little area for postcards, please let us know by commenting – and we would love to have you put postcards with a discount at your school.  Moms apparently love our postcards, and think they are so interesting – as it talks about who we are, why we do what we do, and what clothing we have to offer!

Did someone say Cookie? August 20, 2009

We absolutely love Cookie Magazine – the photography is designed beautifully, and people love the fact that it is so fashion forward, and has great celebrities on it.

We were invited to visit the Cookie Magazine headquarters in NYC and meet with their fashion team – as they loved Sama Baby and our affordable new denim line. Cookie loved how beautiful our items are – and were happy to meet the two sisters that made this company out of their own home!

We loved their offices – beautifully designed lobby and happy employees! Cookie magazine is a great resource as well!

Reading Up on the Industry August 19, 2009

DSC06959As most people do – we read up on what is going on in our industry – what are moms thinking about, talking about, reading about!?

Well Kiwi Magazine is a great place to get a lot of great resources – people love reading about ways to green their home, how to gear up for another back to school August, and what is fashionable!

Here we are at a yummy little French Bakery – eating our fine herbes omelettes and wonderful hot chocolate – reading up on Kiwi Magazine. The childrens industry is such a happy place – and its great that we are in an industry where people are out to help nurture healthy happy babies – as we like to do at Sama Baby. Sama Baby is an organic cotton line that focuses on this as its sole mission – and providing great service and design!

Chica Chica Mama! August 17, 2009

One of our favorite things is to feature our press that we have received!

Blogging is an interesting form of writing. We believe that the editors at Mamaista truly have developed a TRUE VOICE online. The one for hip moms, that are all about finding new products, those unique items that the baby next door does not have!

We love the editors at Mamaista- as they are also female entrepreneurs with a similiar vision – providing sound information to moms around the world regarding products.

They love our line – our story, our fashion concept, and our story.  Check out the article here titled GLOBAL APPEAL:

VANITY FAIR FEATURES SAMA BABY ORGANICS! June 25, 2009

madonna-vanity-fair-2Check it out – Sama Baby is featured in the article “Cute Eco-Friendly Kids’ Clothes Do Exist”

Super exciting – images from our fashion show, photo shoots, and much more about our company!

http://www.vanityfair.com/online/style/2009/06/cute-ecofriendly-kids-clothes-do-exist.html

A few years ago, when sisters Shivani and Neha Gupta were perusing options for eco-friendly baby apparel, they were sorely disappointed in the options available. “We only saw a few little onesies,” Neha says. “When you touched the material, it felt rough—almost like a potato sack. We knew that there had to be a better way.”

In 2006, that feeling led the sisters and their mother, Anita, to found Sama Baby Organics, an eco-friendly fashion company with a range of options for kids. The fashion-forward line uses eco-friendly materials (including organic cotton and nontoxic dyes) and processes and is inspired by their home country of India. Sama Baby Organics carries hoodies, tees, and jeans for boys, and halter-style dresses, mini-tunics, and capri leggings are available for girls. “When I’m designing, I definitely think of the different colors that look good on different skin tones,” Neha says. “The bright colors and neat prints are completely inspired by the romantic colors and textures of India.”

An ancient Sanskrit word, sama means balance, calmness, and serenity. Even as the label has grown, Shivani, who serves as C.E.O., and Neha, who is vice president and head designer, continue to visit India themselves and remain hands-on throughout the entire production process. “This is what makes the difference,” Neha says. “We know the language. We have a relationship with our manufacturers like that of family. I’m personally talking to the factory heads.”

The dichotomy between the East and the West has been on Neha’s mind since she was a painter in high school. “All of my paint subjects became focused on East and West,” she said. “What is the view of beauty in each? What are the cultures? What are the values?” With Sama Baby Organics, she continues to combine the best from each side of the world. “My designs are Western silhouettes with Eastern prints and colors. I never thought that all my interests would come together in synergy,” she says.

Although green fashion has recently gotten more attention, Neha says she’s proud that Sama Organics has been committed to sustainability from the start. “Eco-apparel is a totally different way of operating,” she explains. “From the factory working at higher standards to the required health-care regulations, it’s fair trade and organic through and through. It’s changing the standard of life and the way the world is affected.”
