Momtrends feature! April 27, 2009

Hey Everyone! Please click on this link to see our feature on Momtrends.com!

http://momtrends.blogspot.com/2009/04/sama-baby.html

Read this, “Every organic choice you make leave an impact on the lives f others who depend upon a healthy planet.” That’s from the label of a new brand called Sama Baby–a collection of truly luxurious organic baby clothing.

They sent me a bib to check out. The cotton was sumptuous–nothing crunchy about this. And the bib was printed with the sweetest little baby elephant. The collection is made in India with certified organic cotton and promises that the garments do not involve sweatshops.

In addition to being green, these clothes are incredibly cool. I clicked around the website and found a few favorites like the Double Layer Strap Dress ($28). And I love the chic simplicity of the Gown with the tiny elephant graphic ($25)–perfect for a newborn baby boy.

The Dark Side of Conventional Cotton April 16, 2009

When we think about global warming, increasing cancer rates,  and sensitivites to chemicals, our clothes closets are probably not the first villain that comes to mind, but our clothes can be a significant, quiet co-conspirator.

Cotton evokes images of white, fluffy purity and many people think of cotton as being a natural, pure fabric.  Cotton is a wonderfully versatile and globally important fiber that is used for a vast variety of fiber and food products, making it one of the most widely traded commodities on earth.  Versatility, softness, breath-ability, absorbency, year-round comfort, performance, and durability are just a few of the qualities that have earned cotton its popular status.  Due to its unique fiber structure which can absorb up to 27 times its own weight in water, cotton breathes and helps remove body moisture by absorbing it and wicking it away from the skin.  Not only is cotton the most popular and best selling fabric in the world, due to its huge commercial value, cotton also represents an essential component of foreign exchange earnings for more than fifty countries.  The value and reach of cotton extends far past the fashion runway.

But, the global cotton industry has a worldwide Dark Side of which most of us are not aware as we fill our shopping bags with inexpensive cotton shirts from major clothing stores.  The simple act of conventionally growing and harvesting the one pound of cotton fiber needed to make a T-shirt takes an enormous and devastating toll on the earth’s air, water, and soil that impacts global health.  Also, policies and practices within the cotton industry from crop subsidies to garment sweatshops create poverty and misery that stretch around the world.

That is why Sama Baby is different. The CEO and VP go to India EVERY SINGLE YEAR to inspect the cotton. To go to the fields. To speak the language, to meet with the farmers. We go to make sure everything is completely organic following the HIGHEST level of organic cotton. We make sure that everyone is treated fairly, that we are supporting local villages, that we make sure it is FAIR TRADE!

People buy our product because they believe in our story, they believe that companies should be hands on when making a product, and they are inspired by what our team does to ensure that we handle everything ourselves!

Testimonials from Moms about Sama Baby April 15, 2009

So,

One of our Sama Mama’s has been so excited about our line – that she can’t keep her kid out of it! She not only loves the quality, feel, and softness of our line – but she has put us on her blog, with her cute little daughter Radha in the clothes!

Here are some of the super cute images of her daughter in our clothing – in both Elephant collection and India Year Round. The clothes look fabulous and she says they wash extremely well, and are super fashion forward!

IF you have any kids that have worn Sama baby clothing and you have images of your child in them – please forward them to us! We are collecting AS many pictures as we can and as many moms to be part of the Sama Mama group – that we will be featuring your kids on our website as part of our contest!

The Healthy Belly and Sama Baby April 13, 2009

Hi Everyone -

So as you can tell – we are really getting quite some traction in terms of press. To be more precise – we have been featured in 50 different press related instances. Kind of crazy, isn’t it?

Anyways, The Healthy Belly is a great website that focuses on birth and motherhood. We met the team that started this website, a quarky, fun, easy to be around team from Arizona with a really different way of working – they followed their passion and combined forces together to create this wonderful website called http://thehealthybelly.com

Why The Healthy Belly?
Our mission is to help educate expecting parents and families on the many topics relating to raising a child or toddler, to the amazing experiences of pre and post-natal pregnancy. With a strong focus on nutrition, fitness, and mental health, The Healthy Belly strives to give you the most positive, organic, and holistic approach to pregnancy and child development.

The team met us at Expo West – the all natural expo in California – that many companies go to that focus on natural and organic products.

Here is a snippet of Sama Baby’s Vice President Neha Gupta talking about the line! The interviewer Amber Goetz is stunning and wonderful on tv – it was quite a joy to work with her and be involved with her! We hope to be involved with them more often!

April 10, 2009

I absolutely loved Monday’s Oprah. How unbelievably comical. Such honesty was on this episode that I literally want to forward the episode to every new mom.

One of the best parts was that Karen, @chookooloonks was on the show. I am amazed that I know someone who was on Oprah- that is just HUGE!!  Even bloggers were featured like http://ww

We are so happy that Oprah started the O Moms group. We hope to somehow work with them  – as they clearly have a lot of advice for moms on how to deal with parenting and being a mom!

Even bloggers were featured like http://www.dooce.com

In the motherhood is such a funny show. We are looking to do some product placement for that show. It is so funny!!

Anyways I just thought I’d mention that oprah has really opened up the momversation and I think that show could have been longer! It is really wonderful that the truth of motherhood is coming out!!!

Sama Baby teams up with Houston Earth Day! April 11th! April 9, 2009

Sama Baby is getting involved at one of the biggest green festivals! We will be having a model contest, inviting moms to be part of our Sama Mama group and giveaways!

As Discovery Green marks its first anniversary, Earth Day Houston, a green living festival, will debut onsite Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festivities kick off with the Mothers for Clean Air Earth Day 5K at 8 a.m. followed by a day-long celebration with family entertainment, environmental education, and much more.

The free one-day celebration will focus on the merits of mindful, sustainable living while educating and encouraging Houstonians to preserve, conserve and enhance our city and the Earth. Developed by Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention and Mothers for Clean Air, Earth Day Houston is a collaboration with the City of Houston, Discovery Green and various green non-profit agencies.

Event proceeds benefit Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention/Mothers for Clean Air, a non-profit whose mission is to improve Houston’s air quality and educate the public about the hazards of air pollution.

Two young, female entrepreneurs who are dedicated to creating a product that makes a difference started Sama Baby. We offer organic and fashion-forward children’s garments to conscientious parents. Our 100% certified organic cotton comes from India, and is the softest, most luxurious in the market. Our products are fair trade, and our farmers use organic vegetables as their rotation crop. This rotation replenishes the soil, feeds the workers, and benefits the environment.
