A little about Urban Baby, as per its site:

Since its launch in 1999, UrbanBaby has been an invaluable resource for urban parents.

The heart of the site is Talk, our lively message boards section, where parents come day and night to share, discuss and ask questions related to parenting and their lives as parents. Talk is a place for honest, uninhibited discussions, quick answers, banter and community.

In addition to our message boards, we offer in-depth local information for New York and San Francisco, local message boards for additional urban areas, and we will be rolling out new local resource guides in 2008. We also offer general parenting and product news & tips in Buzz.

The site was founded by Susan and John Maloney and was acquired by CNET Networks in 2006. We are proud of our community of loyal users, and hope that you will find the site useful and entertaining.

Well, we at Sama Baby, love Urban Baby.  We are carried all over the US and in New York and San Francisco and are happy to be the BUZZ in these areas!

Hope you like the feature! It is great that people are so focused on organic cotton baby clothing for babies and toddlers! It is great to see press featuring Sama Baby and its commitment to being GREEN, fair trade, and organic!
LETS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

VANITY FAIR FEATURES SAMA BABY ORGANICS! June 25, 2009

madonna-vanity-fair-2Check it out – Sama Baby is featured in the article “Cute Eco-Friendly Kids’ Clothes Do Exist”

Super exciting – images from our fashion show, photo shoots, and much more about our company!

http://www.vanityfair.com/online/style/2009/06/cute-ecofriendly-kids-clothes-do-exist.html

A few years ago, when sisters Shivani and Neha Gupta were perusing options for eco-friendly baby apparel, they were sorely disappointed in the options available. “We only saw a few little onesies,” Neha says. “When you touched the material, it felt rough—almost like a potato sack. We knew that there had to be a better way.”

In 2006, that feeling led the sisters and their mother, Anita, to found Sama Baby Organics, an eco-friendly fashion company with a range of options for kids. The fashion-forward line uses eco-friendly materials (including organic cotton and nontoxic dyes) and processes and is inspired by their home country of India. Sama Baby Organics carries hoodies, tees, and jeans for boys, and halter-style dresses, mini-tunics, and capri leggings are available for girls. “When I’m designing, I definitely think of the different colors that look good on different skin tones,” Neha says. “The bright colors and neat prints are completely inspired by the romantic colors and textures of India.”

An ancient Sanskrit word, sama means balance, calmness, and serenity. Even as the label has grown, Shivani, who serves as C.E.O., and Neha, who is vice president and head designer, continue to visit India themselves and remain hands-on throughout the entire production process. “This is what makes the difference,” Neha says. “We know the language. We have a relationship with our manufacturers like that of family. I’m personally talking to the factory heads.”

The dichotomy between the East and the West has been on Neha’s mind since she was a painter in high school. “All of my paint subjects became focused on East and West,” she said. “What is the view of beauty in each? What are the cultures? What are the values?” With Sama Baby Organics, she continues to combine the best from each side of the world. “My designs are Western silhouettes with Eastern prints and colors. I never thought that all my interests would come together in synergy,” she says.

Although green fashion has recently gotten more attention, Neha says she’s proud that Sama Organics has been committed to sustainability from the start. “Eco-apparel is a totally different way of operating,” she explains. “From the factory working at higher standards to the required health-care regulations, it’s fair trade and organic through and through. It’s changing the standard of life and the way the world is affected.”

Do you know the How To’s of Fashion? May 26, 2009

You would think that fashion shows are easy – beautiful models, beautiful clothes, a little music, and a great ramp.

Not at all.  After being trained in fashion show production by LenMat Productions for the past 7 years, I have learned that fashion shows are an artform, a unique expression that turns clothes into life.

Some shows I have worked with include designers such as Prada, Marc Jacobs, Sergio Rossi, Valentino, you name it.  Tootsies, Saks, Foley’s Grand Opening, etc.  Some of the most stunning models, the most ridiculous clothes, and the greatest fashion shows in Houston have been designed ultimately by the LenMat team.

And now, after many years of training, I am actually putting together my own show. Realizing the amount of work that it is, I am actually surprisingly calm.  I think the people around me are more stressed out than I am!

Unlike the LenMat team, who has a usual set of models they like to work with, or use an agency to pick their models – I have done a search for some of the most beautiful babies in Houston – whether it be at the grocery store, an email blast, or through meeting people.  I have hand-picked each local model, to represent the true meaning of our show – GOING LOCAL!

I am very excited about my fitting meeting on Wednesday – slightly nervous as this is the first time I am doing a production on my own – involving some major Houston companies such as Ruggles Green, New Living, Motherhood Center, Dot Dot Salon, Kristina Koutsadas Belly Dancing, and much more.

We have been working overtime here at Sama Baby. Going Local in a way that other organic cotton lines haven’t.  We believe that getting out there means involving everyone around you to be part of what you have created. To share, to express, to feel, to taste. These are the best ways of having people enjoy and be part of something bigger.
This fashion show is going to be one of the biggest events I have ever thrown – esp. when it is right up my alley. I had NO idea 7 years ago that I would actually be throwing my own fashion show, with my own actual designs.  It truly is going to be such a humbling, and rewarding experience.

Anyways, I will be sharing the fashion show fitting pictures to show you some of the backstage of what really goes on during a fashion show – You might start to notice how tough it is – and how crazy it can be..

Although most people are on holiday today, I am going to be getting a beautiful little garment rack filled with different sizes to make sure, that all children are going to have their own outfits, with different sizing to check if they fit each outfit.  In true fashion shows, you can request an exact model size, 2 or 4, in order to just pick the sets of outfits.

With babies – I…don’t… think so. Some babies can be tiny, some can be larger, some can be taller, some can be skinny, some can be healthy. You can never really know what the real size is. This is going to be entertaining!

Fashion Show

May 31st 2-4pm New Living, Sama Baby, Ruggles Green, Motherhood Center, OpMom, Green Lily Events all team up for SPROUT DAY! May 21, 2009

Invitation

Please RSVP for the event  at neha@samababy.com  - the event is from 2-4pm, at New Living in the Village! We will be having yummy wine, belly dancing class, an eco-fashion show featuring Houston’s best families, and of course, baby sitters free of charge to watch the kids!

I have been doing some serious planning, using local moms and dads for the fashion show!  This event is going to be great and can’t wait to really go local in Houston.  It seems like the Houston community is so supportive of Houston designers and companies – and its great to create a launch to the Summer with my bright, colorful summer line!

Momtrends feature! April 27, 2009

Hey Everyone! Please click on this link to see our feature on Momtrends.com!

http://momtrends.blogspot.com/2009/04/sama-baby.html

Read this, “Every organic choice you make leave an impact on the lives f others who depend upon a healthy planet.” That’s from the label of a new brand called Sama Baby–a collection of truly luxurious organic baby clothing.

They sent me a bib to check out. The cotton was sumptuous–nothing crunchy about this. And the bib was printed with the sweetest little baby elephant. The collection is made in India with certified organic cotton and promises that the garments do not involve sweatshops.

In addition to being green, these clothes are incredibly cool. I clicked around the website and found a few favorites like the Double Layer Strap Dress ($28). And I love the chic simplicity of the Gown with the tiny elephant graphic ($25)–perfect for a newborn baby boy.
